ZANESVILLE, OH – Muskingum Behavioral Health emphasized the numerous benefits of participating in Dry January.

Dry January is an annual initiative where individuals abstain from alcohol for the first month of the year. The initiative is more than just a month-long challenge, it’s an opportunity for a reset, offering a chance to start the new year with focus on health and wellbeing.

“Regular drinkers who have abstained from alcohol for 30 days slept better, had more energy, and reported weight loss. It also lowered their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and cancer related proteins in the blood.” Jon Adams from Muskingum Behavioral Health said.

Muskingum Behavioral Health also offered some practical tips and strategies to help those participating in Dry January to successfully maintain sobriety.

“Tips for a successful January are find a substitute, a nonalcoholic drink. Avoid temptations all together or create a support group. There’s actually a ‘Try Dry’ app. And just don’t give up. ”

If you experience withdrawal symptoms, it’s important to seek professional help. You can call Muskingum Behavioral Health at (740) 454-1266 for an assessment.
