What Bread to Use for Garlic Bread

When it comes to making garlic bread, there are a variety of bread options that can be used as a base. While traditional French bread is often the go-to choice, there are other types of bread that can add a unique flavor and texture to the dish. For example, sourdough bread can bring a tangy twist to the classic garlic bread recipe. Ciabatta bread is another great option, known for its airy texture and crispy crust. Using an artisan whole grain or multigrain bread can add a nutty flavor and a healthy twist to the dish. Additionally my fluffy, dreamy, delicate Focaccia would add the perfect lightness to the decadence garlic bread is. Ultimately, the type of bread used for garlic bread will depend on personal preference and the desired taste and texture.

Different Garlic Bread Flavours

Of course, you can customize this recipe to your heart’s content. If you like things a little spicier, you could add some red pepper flakes to the garlic butter or pickled jalapeños. If you’re a cheese lover, you could sprinkle some mozzarella or cheddar over the top of the bread before baking. And if you don’t have fresh parsley on hand, you could use dried herbs like oregano or basil instead.

To lean into Mediterranean flavours, you could add some chopped Kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and feta cheese to the bread before baking. The possibilities are truly endless, so don’t be afraid to get creative with your flavour combinations!!

What to Serve Garlic Bread With

Garlic bread is a versatile side dish that can accompany such a wide range of meals. Of course, it’s a classic BFF to a hearty bowl of pasta (like this Baked Spaghetti or Rustic Lasagne) but don’t limit it to Italian food! Garlic bread pairs well with soups, stews, and chilis, like this Hamburger Soup, Lentil Mushroom Stew, or Southwest Chili. It adds a satisfying crunch and is the PERFECT way to soak up every last drop. It is served with nearly every BBQ meal we have all summer long.

It’s also pairs great with dinners like this Apple & Butternut Squash Roasted Chicken or anything you are grilling on the BBQ this season. Honestly, anytime you’re cooking up a comforting home-cooked meal, garlic bread is a welcome addition to the table.
