Health, Falls Prevention, and Balance Tips During Christmas

Here are some things you can do to ensure you stay happy, healthy and steady over the Christmas season.

🏋️‍♂️ Incorporate Gentle Exercises: Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, find moments to engage in gentle exercises. Simple stretches, seated leg lifts, and arm circles, every little counts!

🪩Home Safety Measures: When you decorate your home ensure that it remains a safe space. Secure rugs, declutter walkways, and use non-slip mats to prevent falls.

🚰 Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Whilst it is not my place to tell you what to eat ensure you stay hydrated, as dehydration can affect balance. Eat nutritious foods rich in vitamins and minerals to support your overall health. Remember the importance of vitamin D and calcium for bone strength!

🎅🎉 Pace Yourself: The holiday season often involves a flurry of activities. While it’s tempting to partake in every celebration, pacing yourself is key. Schedule breaks to rest and recharge, preventing tiredeness and reducing the risk of falls.

👠 Choose Supportive Footwear: Opt for comfortable and supportive footwear (they can still sparkle 🌟) , especially during festive gatherings. Proper shoes provide stability and reduce the risk of slips or falls.

🎁  Enlist Support: Whether it’s hanging decorations or carrying presents, don’t hesitate to ask for help. Enlist the support of family or friends to share the load, ensuring you can enjoy the festivities without injuring yourself. I promise they would rather help now than visit you in hospital after a tumble.

Incorporate some simple exercises and safety measures into your festivities for a healthy and joyous Christmas!

Also don’t forget to make everyone do a sit to stand without hands when standing up from the table after the turkey 🦃.

Wishing you a fun December and a very Merry Christmas.
