Lee Health officials warn residents of red tide affecting local beaches

Lee Health officials are saying to stay out of the waters just north the Bokeelia Pier after red tide was found in the waters around Boca Grande Pass and Cayou Pelau.This isn’t the only area on the caution list over the last several weeks. There have been reports of red tide further north in Charlotte County, and as far south as Marco Island.They are advising residents to not get into the water, as it can cause skin irritation, rashes, burning and sore eyes.If you do come into contact with it, wash your skin and clothing with soap and fresh water. You will also want to hold off on eating any sea food you may catch from fishing.Red tide can even cause your pets to get really sick or even worse, so make sure you’re keeping them and yourself safe.
