Harvard Pilgrim Health Care warns patient data was stolen during hack

One of New England’s largest health insurance companies said patient data was compromised in a ransomware attack.Harvard Pilgrim said data like social security numbers and medical histories have potentially been stolen.The company said it’s not aware of the data being misused at this point, but it is notifying affected customers.Granite State customers said the attack has already disrupted their lives, including having to pay for expensive medicines out of pocket, because the prior authorization system went down.“I just feel like we shouldn’t be paying $1,200 just for the medication, when the insurance should be covering it. For us, it’s fine for now but there’s a lot more people that can’t afford paying that much,” Rick Castillon, of Exeter, said. “Our social security numbers are on there. All our information is on there.”They said even now, more than a month after the initial attack, they still can’t go online to find a doctor on the Harvard Pilgrim site.
