Warning: The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 spoilers ahead: He was a frontrunner from the moment he gave her chicken noodle soup—or Chock-o-Noodle soup—when they first met at the Bachelor Mansion, but are Joan and Chock still together from The Golden Bachelorette and did he win her season? Let’s hope they at least last longer than Gerry and Theresa.

Charles “Chock” Chapple, a 60-year-old Insurance Executive from Wichita, Kansas, was one of 24 contestants on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette led by Joan Vassos. Joan, a 61-year-old Private School Administrator from Rockville, Maryland, was previously a contestant on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor with Gerry Turner, where she sent herself home in 12th place in Week 3 to care for her daughter, who had a medical emergency.
Chock was one of Joan’s few Golden Bachelorette contestants to receive a intro package on night one and even got the first one-on-one date with her of the season to Disneyland. And after Chock left The Golden Bachelorette midseason following his mother’s death and still came back, he solidified himself as a contestant who was there for the “right reasons.”
However, while Joan and Chock’s connection was among the strongest of her Golden Bachelorette contestants, not all fans were convinced he was The One for her, especially after Joan’s bowling group date before Hometown Dates where Chock was criticized by the rest of Joan’s cast for monopolizing her time. “Someone give me a box of tissues. I’m so sad Joan sent home Mark. He’s such a sweetheart.💔 Instead she chooses a guy like Chock for hometowns. Don’t get me started on his weird name.😅 He gives me such bad vibes. He seems super possessive and controlling,” a user wrote on X after the episode, referencing Joan’s elimination of Mark Anderson in seventh place. “All I have to say is this: IMO, Chock is creepy, obsessive and possessive. She made a big mistake. She should have chosen Jonathan or Keith in his place… #TheGoldenBachelorette #goldenbachelorette,” another user wrote, referencing Joan’s eliminations of Jonathan Rone and Keith Gordon at the rose ceremony later in the episode. One user wrote, “Chock out here giving us all the ick. #GoldenBachelorette.”
Pascal Ibgui, Joan’s third-place finalist, even called Chock a “stalker” in an interview with Glamour after filming ended. “Chock was all over her to the point where he was [like a] stalker. I mean, it was like, ‘I love you, let’s leave. Let’s do this, let’s do that.’ And, ‘Which side of the bed are you sleeping on?’ It’s bizarre behavior. I don’t know. ‘I can’t wait to be with you. I feel my love with you.’ Maybe in Wichita there is no women. I don’t know,” he said at the time. So are Joan and Chock still together after The Golden Bachelorette? Read on for what we know.
Are Joan and Chock still together from The Golden Bachelorette?
Joan and Chock are still together after The Golden Bachelorette, according to Reality Steve. Chock was named the winner of The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 after Joan gave her final rose to him at the Final Rose Ceremony in the finale. Her runner-up was Guy Gansert, a 66-year-old ER Doctor from Reno, Nevada.
Joan hinted that she and her Golden Bachelorette winner were still together in an interview with Good Morning America before The Golden Bachelorette‘s premiere, in which she said she was “very happy” and had the support of her children, daughter Ally and son Nick, who Chock and Guy met in The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 finale. Chock also told “The Viall Files” podcast prior to the finale that Chock was one of the few Golden Bachelorette contestants she could see a future with immediately after meeting during limo entrances.

“Immediately, I loved what he did. The Chock-o-Noodle soup was hilarious,” she said, referencing the homemade chicken noodle soup Chock gave her. “But the reason that was such a good thing to do is because I realized he went and figured out who I was and what was important to me.” She continued, “He knew the names of all four of my kids. Some people might call that creepy. Some people, like me, thought ‘Wow he really is interested.’”
While Joan and Chock are still together, it wouldn’t be surprising if they didn’t last, given what happened to the first Golden couple, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist. Three months after they got married in The Golden Bachelor’s Golden Wedding special, Gerry and Theresa—who got engaged in The Golden Bachelor finale in November 2023—announced they were divorcing.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion, mutually, that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Gerry said in a joint interview with Theresa on Good Morning America in April 2024.
Theresa explained during the interview that she and Gerry chose to divorce because they couldn’t decide on where to live, given their families were in different states. Gerry is from Indiana, while Theresa is from Shrewsbury, New Jersey. “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home,” Theresa said. “But we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
In her interview with People, Joan also confirmed that she doesn’t plan to move away from Rockville, Maryland, where she lives with her family, to be with her Golden Bachelorette winner, which could become an issue for her relationship with Chock, who is from Wichita, Kansas. “I would never want to leave my family,” Joan said. “My kids and my grandkids all live really close to me and not being close to them all the time would not work for me. They’re the most important people in my life. I felt that anybody that I would be a good match for, they would have the same family values as I have and would not want to leave their family.”
Are Joan and Chock engaged from The Golden Bachelorette?
Reality Steve couldn’t confirm whether Joan and Chock got engaged at the Final Golden Rose Ceremony, however, Joan hinted in an interview with People in September 2024 that getting engaged wasn’t important to her on The Golden Bachelorette, so it’s possible she ended her season without a ring.
“I said all along I didn’t need to leave engaged,” Joan said. “My goal was to leave in a committed relationship. I wanted to have somebody I saw a future with and that we wanted to see how it works in the real world outside of the Bachelor bubble. I didn’t want to go through all of this and be at the same place I was when I came to the mansion.”

If Joan and Chock got engaged, however, it’s almost certain the ring was designed by Neil Lane, a celebrity jeweler, who has created engagement rings for The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise since 2008. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2016, former Chris Harrison revealed that couples from The Bachelor franchise must stay together for a set amount of time or else they must return their free engagement ring back to Neil Lane. “There’s some rule, after a certain number of years, you get to keep it anyway,” he said. “But after months… it goes back.”

Lane also told StyleCaster in 2016 that he doesn’t know what happens to the rings after couples break up, but that he designs them with the hope that the couple stays together. “I make rings hoping that people stay together forever, but after they get the ring, I don’t have a say in it, and what happens after that, I don’t know,” he said. “Where the ring goes, I have to say, I don’t really know. I just say it goes to ring heaven.”
